We are looking for skilled Cook/Chef’s, Prep cooks and Catering Chefs to prepare delicious meals according to menu. You will cook dishes that will delight our customers with their taste and timely delivery.
An excellent cook must be able to follow instructions in cooking and delivering well-prepared meals. They must be deft in moving around the kitchen and apt in multi-tasking. Experience in using various ingredients and cooking techniques is also important. The goal is to help preserve and enhance our reputation so we can expand our clientele.
We are a seasonal café that experiences high volume with a steady flow of guest. It would be helpful to feel confident under pressure while competitively keeping quality standards. We are also a catering kitchen with an openness to chef input on menu, if you are called to creatively contribute while managing food costs – we are interested in you. Line experience is helpful as is baking experience.
Mclean Mill Historic Park, runs the Steam Pot Café which caters to daily guests with farm to table and home-style cuisine. We are open April to October with Special Events in Nov & Dec. In Summer of 2018 we are opening an onsite campground which will allow us to open Breakfast Service. Currently we are primarily lunch focused with several higher end catering opportunities for weddings and corporate bookings.
Responsibilities
• Set up workstations with all needed ingredients and cooking equipment
• Prepare ingredients to use in cooking (chopping and peeling vegetables, cutting meat etc.)
• Cook food in various utensils or grillers
• Check food while cooking to stir or turn
• Ensure great presentation by dressing dishes before they are served
• Keep a sanitized and orderly environment in the kitchen
• Ensure all food and other items are stored properly
• Check quality of ingredients
• Monitor stock and place orders when there are shortages
Qualifications 
Requirements
• Proven experience as cook
• Experience in using cutting tools, cookware and bakeware
• Knowledge of various cooking procedures and methods (grilling, baking, boiling etc.)
• Ability to follow all sanitation procedures
• Ability to work in a team
• Very good communication skills
• Excellent physical condition and stamina
• Valid Food Safe
• Serving it Right is an asset
• High school diploma or equivalent; Diploma from a culinary school will be an advantage
 
Working Conditions:
Physical Demands - The incumbent may spend long hours in a warm kitchen with high volume. The incumbent may manage unexpected interruptions. He/she will also be required to lift boxes of supplies and other materials.  The incumbent may also need to move or assist in moving moderately heavy items.
Environmental Conditions – The incumbent is located in a often busy facility.  The incumbent is faced with regular interruptions and must be able to balance priorities.  The incumbent may be required to attend meetings at various times of the day, weekly staff meetings & one direct report meeting with the Executive Director. Late nights or unusual hours may be necessary.
Sensory Demands – The incumbent may spend long hours in intense concentration or highly stimulating environments
Mental Demands – The position has many deadlines which may cause stress.  The incumbent must also deal with a variety of people on various issues solving immediate problems. Incumbent works in a team environment, where safe work and non discriminatory practices are key.
