KUU-US Crisis Line Society is an Indigenous, accredited charity which has been in operation since 1993. KUU-US offers 24-hr crisis phone support to Indigenous people throughout British Columbia. KUU-US also operates homeless and outreach programs and transitional/supportive housing programs in Port Alberni/West Coast of Vancouver Island. KUU-US also assists clients in finding and sustaining housing and provides food security and life-skills programs.

The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the functionality and management of the Society including all general operations, program and services, finances, volunteers, information technology, human resources management, communications, capital projects and infrastructure, personnel development and administration.

Responsibilities

Leadership & Management:

  • Participate in the development of a vision and strategic plan to guide the organization for the next 5 years.
  • Implement the strategic plan through appropriate and efficient use of resources.
  • Provide support to the Board of Directors by preparing meeting agenda and supporting materials.
  • Act as a professional advisor to the Board of Director on all aspects of the organization's activities.
  • Create and sustain relationships with First Nations (particular attention to Nuu-chah-nulth Nations).
  • Create and implement a communications plan that will build the organization’s reputation.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with other organizations to strategically enhance the organization’s vision and mission.
  • Draft policies for the approval of the Board and prepare procedures to implement the organizational policies.
  • Review annually existing policies and recommend changes to the Board as appropriate.
  • Responsible for day to day operations including human resource management to ensure quality services that meet American Suicidology Accreditation, program funder requirements, and all applicable legislation (BC Employment Standards, Worksafe BC, Societies Act, etc)
  • Responsible for hiring, leading, coaching, evaluating, and retaining competent and qualified staff.
  • Perform other job-related duties as identified to ensure smooth operation of programs and services.

Financial Planning and Fundraising:

  • Responsible for fiscal management of the organization that operates within the approved budgets, ensures maximum resource utilization, and maintains the organization in a positive financial position.
  • Research and apply for external funding sources to increase the monetary resources of the organization.
  • Develop and oversee all fundraising campaigns.
Qualifications 

Skills and Qualifications: 

  • BA in business administration or similar preferred, however, a combination of experience and education considered.
  • Five or more years of senior management experience ideally in a non-profit or Indigenous setting.
  • Exceptional budget management skills, including budget preparation, analysis, decision-making and reporting.
  • Excellence in organizational change management with the ability to coach staff, manage, and develop high-performance teams, set and achieve strategic objectives, manage a budget, and work effectively in collaboration with diverse groups of people including knowledge of Indigenous culture and history.
  • Possess an action-oriented, adaptable, and innovative approach to business planning.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; a persuasive and passionate communicator with excellent interpersonal and multidisciplinary project skills.
  • Past success working with a Board of Directors with the ability to cultivate existing board member relationships.
  • Candidate should have a passion to help people, integrity, positive attitude, initiative, and self-directed.
