The vision of our independent, First Nations school holds language and culture at its centre. Haaḥuupay̓ak School, Kindergarten to Grade 7, is a place where continuous teaching is done with care. Children meet their academic potential, while gaining knowledge and appreciation of their culture. Learning language and culture is core to staff development as well.  The CYC Worker supports students and staff within the objectives and goals of Haaḥuupay̓ak Society.  The CYC Worker ensures that social, emotional and physical well-being of all children is integral in all activities.

Key CYC Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides a safe, comfortable and welcoming environment for children
  • Promotes behavioural change and personal growth for children who may have a range of challenges; as a result of social, emotional, physical, or cognitive delays.
  • Designs, implements and evaluates child-centered, individual plans (team approach) to aid in education and life skills
  • Supports children to achieve their established goals using a strengths-based approach
  • Assesses children’s primary needs using trauma-informed practices
  • Participates in case-conferencing
  • Maintains accurate files, as appropriate
  • Increases awareness of community resources and understanding of family needs in our region
  • Consult, follow direction and work as member of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Participates and contributes to regular staff meetings and professional development
  • Develops respectful, cooperative working relationships with staff, families, service workers and community
  • Adheres to policies and procedures and meets all legal, contractual, financial and other requirements of the school
  • Represents ḥaaḥuupay̓ak School in a positive and professional manner at all times
  • Engages in other school duties as directed.
Qualifications 
  • Post-secondary education in a related field or the equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Solid experience working with children with social-emotional, physical or mental developmental challenges
  • Experience and understanding of trauma-informed practices
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with children; adapting to accommodate developmental needs
  • Culturally competent practices and understanding of the impacts of colonization for Indigenous communities, families and individuals
  • Accuracy, confidentiality and safekeeping of student information and agency records
  • Computer skills in Microsoft Office
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal oral and written communication skills
  • Successful result of Criminal Record Check
