Details

Like all members of the Ucluelet Aquarium’s team, the Retail, Marketing, and Administrative Coordinator (RMA Coordinator) supports the mission of the Ucluelet Aquarium Society: to promote respect for marine environments. We achieve this by interacting with the public and creating a safe and welcoming space for visitors to learn about local ecosystems and the species that inhabit them. In practice this means that you will be working with and amongst the public for nearly all aspects of your day-to-day work.  The seasonal nature of the Ucluelet Aquarium brings seasonal changes to all of the Ucluelet Aquarium’s staff’s responsibilities and work.

In the winter, facility maintenance, animal care, record keeping and grant writing are prioritized.  The spring and fall bring vet visits, school groups, program development, and new staff training.  During the summer (mid June - Mid September) we focus on delivering programs to the thousands of visitors that walk through our doors, and the animal husbandry challenges that warm waters bring.

The main responsibilities of the RMA Coordinator position are ensuring a successful and well stocked retail area, comprised of items that support the UA’s mission. The RMA Coordinator is also responsible for managing the UAS’s social media platforms, website, and public communications. The RMA  Coordinator works collaboratively with all members of the UA team to create posts that reflect the beauty and diversity of the specimens the UA cares for, and the projects we undertake. We value collaboration and teamwork in the Ucluelet Aquarium Society, as it strengthens understanding and cooperation amongst our team, builds resiliency, and makes for a positive workplace. The UAS is always seeking new ways to engage with the public, and this position will be involved with the development of new opportunities, special events, sponsorships and other projects.

Qualifications

Must be able to lift 50lbs, work on ladders, and move across wet and uneven surfaces. Must be legally able to work in Canada. Applicants should be enthusiastic about public communication. Enthusiasm for local marine life and public education is an asset. Experience with managing social media, websites, and coordinating with suppliers is also an asset. Must be comfortable with public speaking and interacting with the public.
