Swell Tofino is looking for an enthusiastic and knowledgeable Surf and Recreation Program Leader to join our amazing team to continue delivering outstanding customer service while sharing our passion through rentals and surf instructions, as well as providing guidance and leading our surf instructor crew.

Swell Tofino is an outdoor education company that provides courses, lessons, and rentals with a focus on enjoying the ocean and the outdoors around Tofino. We provide surfboard, paddleboard and bike rentals, along with daily surfing and paddleboarding lessons. Owner Emre Bosut teaches first aid in the area and provides guide training courses in surfing and stand up paddleboarding.

We strive to provide the best quality education when it comes to the ocean and outdoor learning. Emre brings his knowledge and experience from being an outdoor leader throughout his professional career. Starting off in summer camps, leading multi day canoe and kayak trips, raft guiding, whitewater kayak instructing, sea kayak guiding and developing a previous outdoor business T'ashii Paddle School.

We’re a team that loves to share our Tofino Beach Life through rentals and instruction. We hope to share our passion while continuing to grow and learn with the new energy that life and the ocean provides.

Job Duties

  • Train and supervise surf + paddleboard instructors.
  • Schedule activities with a good knowledge of swell and forecasts, maintaining records and preparing reports.
  • Instruct recreational surf and paddleboard lessons and enforce safety rules, providing assistance and first aid when required.
  • Demonstrate and instruct surfing and paddleboarding for individuals and groups.
  • Assemble surf, paddle and bike equipment, ensuring they are excellent condition.
  • Maintain, repair, and keep equipment in professional working order including surfing equipment, paddling equipment, bikes, safety equipment, and first aid supplies.
  • Keep logs of weather conditions and equipment maintenance, maintain records of guests paperwork and prepare reports for inventory maintenance.
  • Provide outstanding customer service.
  • Attend to projects and needs of the company related to any retail or maintenance.
Qualifications 

Requirements

  • Secondary school diploma.
  • First Aid & CPR & LifeSaving certificate.
  • ISA lvl 1 certificate for surf instruction.
  • Demonstrate the ability to surf and paddleboard at an instructional level.
  • Extensive experience in surf + paddle boarding instruction techniques, safety and weather forecasting.
  • Knowledge and ability to lead outdoor activities pertaining to a wide range of age groups.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with ability to deal with people in a professional manner.
  • Experience in conflict resolution, and the ability to handle inappropriate behaviour and challenging group dynamics.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, enthusiasm and positive attitude.
  • Basic computer skills including Google workplace, MS work.
  • BC Driver’s License “Class 5” is preferred.
  • Good organizational and planning skills.
