Details 

This is a non-union position with the starting wage rate as per the current Collective Agreement. This position is open to both men and women. The position is casual with a future potential for part of full-time.

  • Intake and assess clients for their needs
  • Provide support services to clients
  • Interact with clients and help with their basic needs
  • Be caring, compassionate and be able to show empathy in dealing with the marginalized individuals that the Society works with

 

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Complete intake forms with clients and support client’s needs
  • Case planning when appropriate
  • Be responsible for the implementation of Society rules and building safety
  • Act within the Policy and Procedure Guidelines of the Port Alberni Shelter Society
  • Work as a team player and be responsible to communicate with other staff by both verbal and
  • written communications
  • Food preparation and service
  • Keep food service and storage areas clean, wash dishes
  • General cleaning of facility, janitorial, wash floors, vacuuming, dusting, empty garbage, laundry
  • Report any maintenance or safety needs to your supervisor

 

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

The job entails working with a broad cross section of individuals with varying needs that are under the influence of alcohol or drugs, it is best suited to individuals that like to work with people. It is helpful to be outgoing and have strong personal boundaries. Often exposed to some undesirable working conditions in the form of unpleasant dealings with uncooperative or demanding clients.

Qualifications 
  • Preference given to Human Support Worker diploma or equivalent combination of education, training and experience in working with individuals with addictions
  • Current Criminal Records Check
  • Current Level 1 First Aid
  • Must be willing to work weekends and nightshifts
