The Campground Supervisor is responsible for overseeing and facilitating all aspects of the campgrounds within their assigned area. This role presents a unique opportunity for the right person to utilize a broad range of skills throughout the year. While key qualifications and responsibilities are outlined below, flexibility and the ability to adapt to unforeseen circumstances are essential to be successful in this position.

We currently have two openings for this role: one in the central Vancouver Island area and one in the southern Vancouver Island area. Both positions are full time, running 10 months a year and reporting directly to the Campground Manager.

Key Responsibilities:

 Staff and Facility Management:

o       Recruit, interview, and supervise campground hosts

o       Ensure hosts have the training, information and on-going support they need to have a successful season

o       Supply hosts with the required tools and maintenance supplies

o       Conduct monthly worker assessments, safety meetings, and emergency response drills

o       Carry out monthly site inspections and follow up on any identified deficiencies

o       Follow up with hosts when the public provides feedback about their camping experience

o       Follow up with campers as needed based on feedback

o       Conduct Danger Tree Assessments (if qualified)

o       Assist hosts with landscaping as needed

o       Complete basic infrastructure repairs

o       Prioritize and facilitate larger projects based on available funds

o       Work with contractors for more specialized work such as falling and machine work, ensuring all work meets expected quality and safety standards

 

¬       Financials and Administrative Management:

o       Weekly cash-out at sites within the operating area

o       Track all revenue and expenses related to site operations

o       Submit required Revenue and Expense reports

o       Write required annual reports

o       Submit Incident Reports and follow up as needed

o       Attend management and supervisor meetings

Qualifications 
  • ¬       Minimum high school diploma with a diploma or degree in recreation management preferred
  • ¬       Valid driver’s license
  • ¬       Experienced at driving safely on active forest service roads
  • ¬       Strong organizational skills, able to prioritize tasks in order to meet deadlines
  • ¬       Solid leadership and interpersonal skills with a proven ability to manage conflict and deescalate potentially challenging situations
  • ¬       Able to work both independently and as a team member
  • ¬       Excellent attention to detail when conducting site assessments
  • ¬       Previous experience in a maintenance position, supervisory role, or business administration preferred
  • ¬       Physically able to complete basic maintenance of campground infrastructure
  • ¬       Basic carpentry skill set
  • ¬       Basic knowledge of the safe use and maintenance of hand and small power tools
  • ¬       First Aid, Danger Tree Assessment, and WHMIS certification are required, but we will provide the successful candidate with the required courses and training if needed.
  • ¬       Familiar with operating various software such as Google docs, Dropbox, Excel, Word, etc.
  • ¬       Strong technical writing skills
