Island Work Transitions, Inc. (IWT) delivers WorkBC Employment Services to communities in the Alberni-Clayoquot region, as a subcontractor to Central Vancouver Island Job Opportunities Building Society (CVIJOBS).

IWT is looking to hire a candidate with strong sales, marketing, networking, and administrative skills to engage employers in Port Alberni, promote Wage Subsidies, and secure contracts for WorkBC clients. Occasional travel to our other office locations in Ucluelet and Tofino may be required.

Wage Subsidies provide financial support to employers as an incentive to hire eligible job seekers and provide them with work experience and skills enhancement. The employer is reimbursed a portion of a new employee’s wages to offset the cost of training, which provides the employer the flexibility to train the worker to fit their needs.

This is a part time position. 21 hours of work will be completed in three 7 hour shifts during the work week (schedule to be arranged between the new hire and IWT directors, as we are open Monday to Friday). This position includes Extended Health Benefits including vision and dental coverage.

The duties of this position include:

Promotion & Marketing:

  • Persuasively and dynamically market the Wage Subsidy program, both online and in person, promoting its benefits to employers and job-seekers.
  • Build collaborative relationships with employers and service providers, and develop a strong network through involvement in community events and groups.
  • Develop marketing materials, including contributions to AVEC job posting website and Facebook page, and facilitate information sessions for potential clients.

Implementation & Administration:

  • Initiate and negotiate Wage Subsidy contracts for participants, provide ongoing monitoring and support to both employers and clients, and process monthly claim forms submitted by employers.
  • Perform ongoing data entry to provincial case management system according to contract expectations, maintaining accurate records, processing claims and providing regular reports.
  • Ensure strict adherence to client confidentiality, ethical guidelines and other professional codes of conduct.
  • Create and secure paid employment opportunities for clients, through close collaboration with employers to ensure plans are suitable and realistic.
  • Monitor and document clients’ progress in their work situations, providing needed support for on-the-job problem solving.
Qualifications
  • Grade 12 completion.
  • Must complete a Criminal Record Check which allows one to work in the vulnerable peoples sector (required by all staff).
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally.
  • Strong networking, negotiation, and marketing skills.
  • Demonstrated experience using computer technology, databases, and social media platforms
  • Skilled at working with numbers and performing calculations
  • Proficient experience in working with Microsoft Excel
  • Good knowledge of the local labour market, community resources, services and businesses.
  • Must have valid BC Driver’s Licence and access to a vehicle suitable for workplace travel (reimbursement for travel expenses will be provided).

Preferred:

  • Working history that includes working in sales
  • Previous experience processing payroll
