Details 

Duties:

  • Strong commitment to exceeding guests’ expectations. Ensure guests have a productive, entertaining and safe experience on the water
  • Knowledgeable and professional with regards to boat handling, all aspects of fly-fishing techniques and be confident in fly-fishing instruction as well as fish processing
  • Prepare gear and equipment in advance of departure for each charter
  • Conduct a pre-trip orientation of vessel safety procedures with each client group
  • Act as public relations host for Clayoquot Ventures Ltd, including taking photos of guest with catch for promotional purposes
  • Understand and abide by Department of Fisheries and Ocean Regulations, Transport Canada Regulations and Coast Guard regulations 
  • Ensure the well-being of guests, and generate an aura of fun and professionalism on the vessel
  • Safe operation, cleaning and maintenance of vessel, equipment, dock and fish cleaning areas at all times with a priority to ensuring a first class appearance and functionality of the vessel at all times

Rate of pay based on experience.  Bonus remuneration may be paid based on individual employee’s performance and achievement of fulfilling responsibilities and guest feedback. 

This position is offered as seasonal part time however it could be expanded to seasonal full time if applicant has appropriate skills to fulfill both positions currently available.

Qualifications 

Applicant must be an excellent communicator, knowledgeable naturalist, a good story teller, patient, organized, a hands on individual with a common sense approach, and have proven time management skills. Work effectively with others, be a self-starter with an understanding of vessel mechanics, electronics, coastal marine environments, weather and tides. 

Required credentials:

  • Marine Emergency Duties A3 required. (MED - A3)
  • Small Vessel Operators Proficiency  (SVOP)
  • Restricted VHF Operators Certificate –Marine (ROC-M)
  • Marine Basic First Aid (MBFA)
  • Grade 12 or equivalent
  • Must be bondable and in good health 
  • Previous guiding and Saltwater/freshwater/fly-fishing fishing experience an asset
