We are a family in Tofino seeking a Nature Nanny / Au Pair in Tofino

We are seeking someone who enjoys taking care of children, planning well rounded days, and providing a safe and fun environment for kids to flourish!

End of August / September Start Date. Minimum contract to April, with option to extend. 

$25-30/hour when with 2 children – $20/hour when with one child/homecare duties (pay is dependent upon experience)

Childcare responsibilities:

- Monday and Tuesday is from 8:30am to 4pm with our one year old daughter and another one year old girl, trading off to each others houses

- Friday is with a 4 year old and a 1 year old

- Each day prepare montessori/waldorf/nature inspired activities

- Get outside one to two times each day

- Include music / singing and daily reading

- Enjoys cooking with children and will prepare healthy snacks and lunch for them with ingredients provided. This can be done on paid time outside of childcare as needed. 

- crafting with natural materials and open to looking up activities and ordering supplies (costs will be covered)

- Can transport children on a run bike, stroller or car to parks, aquarium, beaches, library or community activities

- Potential additional hours for picking up 4 year old child from daycare and bring to sports

 

Homecare Support Responsibilities:

- other days (a couple hours here and there that are flexible each week and to be discussed together) is family support hours

- food prep / dinner on Wednesdays and Thursdays

- tidying/cleaning

 

Housing Notes:

  • Housing is in a shared house with the staff from our surf school: Swell Tofino
  • You will have your own private room
  • Cost for the room is deducted from pay ($600/month)
  • From September to April, you will have 1-3 roommates. In the summer, there are more surf school staff, so you could have 7 roommates. To keep things respectful in the house, there are guidelines for a quit hour, no parties in the house and a cleaning schedule and guidelines around guests

 

Qualifications 

Requirements:

  • Clearance of a criminal background check
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification, or ability to complete (we offer courses and can put you in a course if needed)
  • You must be able to be comfortable and have the equipment to be outside for 4-5 hours a day in sun, rain, snow, etc. and kneeling, squatting, running, jumping, playing, etc.
  •  
  • Multiple years experience working with young children/babies

- education or training in Waldorf or Montessori curriculum
